About our Preston courses
The town of Preston has a strong industrial heritage that survives to this day, with many prospering businesses and ever-expanding suburbs. Over the years, we’ve run many occupational health and safety courses for companies based in and around Preston, from large manufacturers to small office-based SMEs, as well as schools, leisure facilities and other public spaces.
We have a dedicated training location in Preston town centre, but we know that on-site training is much more convenient and cost-efficient for many businesses. If you would prefer us to come to your premises, just let us know when you book the training – or submit a quick enquiry and we will contact you.
You can read a synopsis of each course below, and feel free to email us ([email protected]) if you have any questions whatsoever, or give us a call on 0800 774 7034. If you don’t see the course that you want to book listed on this page, we can still arrange it for you.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – level 2
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years
Our EFAW training is a full-day course that outlines the basics of emergency first aid in ‘low-risk’ work environments, such as retail spaces and small offices.
The main focus is the various accidents and sudden illnesses that staff, visitors or customers can fall victim to, and how the designated first-aiders can respond swiftly and appropriately to each one.

First Aid at Work (FAW) – level 3
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years
Our FAW training is a three-day course that goes into much greater detail than the one-day EFAW course outlined above, and is more appropriate for first-aiders who work in larger and/or more hazardous environments.
The types of sectors we commonly provide this training for include (but are not limited to) manufacturing, construction and agriculture.
Given that there are vastly different processes and environments across different industrial sectors, we can tailor the course content specifically for your organisation if you wish, ensuring full relevance for your attendees.
Paediatric First Aid

First Aid – Annual Half-Day Refresher
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 1 year
HSE officially recommends that all businesses arrange annual refresher training for every qualified first-aider within the three years of the qualification. Not only does this reinforce the first-aid knowledge that attendees already know, but it also helps them stay up to date with any big changes in legislation or general first-aid procedure.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 1 year
Our AED training is an intensive two-hour course that instructs on how to operate automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
These devices are designed for anyone to use on victims of cardiac arrest; however, with official training, the process becomes even clearer and more familiar for the employee who is called upon, equipping them with foreknowledge that may literally turn out to be life-saving.
Fire Warden (AKA Fire Marshal)
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: Indefinitely (but we recommend refreshing knowledge every 3 years)
Our Fire Warden training is a half-day course that arms your designated fire wardens/marshals with the skills to identify fire risks, proactively prevent them from developing and also take charge during fire emergencies. Each attendee takes part in a practical fire extinguisher demonstration, to ensure that they know how to discharge properly.
This kind of training is a legal requirement for all types of businesses, and applies to all employees who have fire warden responsibilities, not just the senior fire marshal (AKA ‘fire safety coordinator’).

Hot Work Passport
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: N/A
Valid for: 5 years
Our Hot Work Passport is a full-day course designed for both workers and supervisors, giving both parties a clear understanding of the risks and hazards involved in hot work, plus the safe ways in which to carry out hot work permits (risk assessments), as well as how to prevent fires. By ‘hot work’, we mean any activity or equipment that can produce heat or sparks – for example, oxy-fuel welding, electric welding, or operating blowlamps, blowtorches, cutting discs, grinding wheels, Stihl saws and so on.
Hot work permits are a legal requirement for anyone who is carrying out or supervising hot work, including site managers. Each attendee to this course is awarded a certificate and a photo ID card (‘passport’) upon completion.

Fire Awareness
Completion certificate: No
Recognised by: N/A
Valid for: N/A
Our Fire Awareness training is a three-hour course that outlines the appropriate workplace responses in the event of a fire or triggering of a fire alarm. It shows your staff everything from ensuring basic fire safety among themselves and colleagues, to operating fire extinguishers (each attendee takes part in a practical fire extinguisher demonstration to learn how to discharge) and conducting building evacuations.
Note that this course does not result in a formal qualification, but as an employer you should treat it as necessary – because the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that you must ensure that all of your employees receive adequate safety training.

Evacuation Chair
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 2 years
Our Evacuation chair training is a half-day course that teaches attendees how to use an evacuation chair in the event of an emergency (such as a fire), thereby safely escorting disabled or immobile people from your premises.
It’s true that the training itself is not required by law, but ensuring a safe means of escape from your building is a legal requirement – not only for your staff, but also for any customers, clients or other visitors to your premises.
