About our Chester Courses

The city of Chester is a relatively compact yet thriving place with a population of more than 300,000 people. What was once a Roman fortress has grown over two millennia into a place full of character and heritage, and now functions not only a tourism destination but also as a hub for service-led businesses. For that reason, we regularly hold training courses for many different organisations in and around the Chester area, encompassing all kinds of sectors – from leisure and hospitality, right through to communications, manufacturing and more.

We’re more than happy to host any training session at our dedicated Chester training location (located just a few minutes’ drive from the city centre, in the village of Christleton). However, we are very much aware that on-site training may be more logistically convenient and/or more cost-effective for you, so if you would like us to come to your premises and deliver the training there, we certainly can. Fire Warden (AKA Fire Marshal)

The half-day fire warden course is intended for all fire wardens/marshals within an organisation – not just the senior fire marshal, but everyone with the responsibility. It outlines how to identify fire risks, to proactively prevent fires and exactly how to respond in the event of different fire emergencies. There is a practical extinguisher demonstration, which each attendee has to complete in order to pass.

Such training is a legal requirement for all designated fire wardens in all types of businesses, and group bookings are not just common but recommended, especially if your organisation has more than 20 employees.

Fire Awareness

The three-hour fire awareness course is a mixture of theory and practical exercises, introducing your employees to basic fire safety principles and the appropriate responses they should make to fire emergencies. Knowing fire assembly points, locating and operating fire extinguishers, conducting evacuations and more are all covered in this training session. There is a practical extinguisher demonstration, which each attendee must complete in order to pass.

Although this course does not come with a formal qualification upon completion, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 does state that employers must arrange for all employees to receive adequate safety training. As such, we recommend this for every organisation, regardless of size or sector.

Full Fire Awareness course specification

Hot Work Passport

The full-day Hot Work Passport course is suitable for any worker at any seniority level who is involved in hot work (e.g. welding or any other activity/equipment that could produce heat or sparks). This training is key for supervisors and site managers as well as the workers actually carrying out the labour, so that fire risks are minimised, and any fires that do start are quickly controlled.

Over the course of the day, attendees will gain full awareness of the risks and hazards involved in hot work, as well as the correct procedure for safely carrying out hot work permits (risk assessments). Each attendee receives a certificate and a photo ID card (‘passport’) upon completion.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – level 2

Valid for: 3 years

The full-day EFAW course is an introductory session that outlines the basics of emergency first aid in a ‘low-risk’ work environment (i.e. an office or a retail space).

A combination of theory-based learning and hands-on exercises, the session shows your staff how to respond decisively, whether it’s an accident involving a coworker or a sudden illness suffered by a customer.

First Aid at Work (FAW) – level 3

Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years

The three-day FAW course goes into much more depth than the single-day EFAW course does, and is especially relevant to larger businesses or those with more hazardous work environments – such as leisure facilities, pubs and bars, manufacturing facilities, agriculture sites and more.

Given that the nature of each organisation varies hugely from the next, we can tailor the content of this course to your business, ensuring that your employees receive training that is focused on and their work environment and day-to-day duties.

First Aid – Annual Half-Day Refresher

Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 1 year

First aid qualifications are valid for three years, but HSE recommends that businesses arrange for annual refresher training for each qualified first-aider. This ensures that existing knowledge is reinforced, any knowledge-gaps are plugged and any legislative changes are highlighted.

(Note that it doesn’t matter who ran your initial first aid course(s): we can provide the refresher session even if it’s our first time working with you – just let us know the details of past training, and we’ll go from there.)

Manual Handling

The half-day manual handling course educates your employees on safe lifting practices (and unsafe ones), with a view to minimising future injuries.

The course content is holistic, but we can tailor it to your organisation if that would be beneficial. If you need something more in-depth than the standard session, we can extend it to a full-day format.
