About our Macclesfield courses
In close proximity to Manchester and boasting strong transport links to London, the town of Macclesfield may be small but it is certainly bustling, with plenty of retail stores, office spaces, bars, cafes, restaurants and is home to several significant manufacturing operations. We regularly host occupational health and safety training for businesses based in and around Macclesfield, across a wide range of sectors.
We do have a dedicated training centre in Macclesfield, but we appreciate that on-site training may be more convenient and cost-efficient for you – so just let us know when you book the training if you would like us to come to you. Submit a quick enquiry outlining your needs, and we will be in touch to iron out the details.
Read synopses of our most popular Macclesfield courses below, and please do call (0800 774 7034) or email us ([email protected]) if you have any questions. The list is not exhaustive, so if you don’t see the course that you want to book, there’s a strong likelihood that we can still arrange it for you.
Course contents at a glance
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – level 2
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years
The full-day EFAW course teaches the basic principles and techniques of emergency first aid within ‘low-risk’ work environments, e.g. retail spaces, hospitality and offices.
This training is centred on the common accidents and sudden illnesses that staff, visitors or customers can fall victim to, equipping your designated first-aiders to respond appropriately in these scenarios.

Paediatric First Aid
Recognised by: OFSTED and EY
Completion certificate: YesFS
Valid for: 3 years
The two-day Paediatric First Aid course is designed for staff in schools, nurseries and other child-minding environments, and elevates attendees’ knowledge and skills beyond that of the basic first-aider.
By the end of both days, your staff will be well-versed in the various common accidents, illnesses and other emergencies that can affect young children and babies, and will know how to respond appropriately to each situation.

First Aid at Work (FAW) – level 3
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years
The three-day FAW course delves much deeper than the one-day EFAW course outlined above, and is ideal for any first-aider who works in a hazardous environment or within a larger organisation.
We provide this training for a wide variety of businesses in a wide variety of sectors, including manufacturing, construction and agriculture, as well as leisure, transport and more – so we can tailor it to your specific industry if you like.
First Aid – Annual Half-Day Refresher
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 1 year
HSE strongly recommends that employers arrange annual refresher training for all of their qualified first-aiders, to keep knowledge fresh and to update attendees on any recent changes in best practice. We can provide this refresher training for you even if your staff received the initial training elsewhere.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 1 year
The two-hour AED course is an intensive training session that gives a solid introduction to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and how to operate them (i.e. treating someone in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest).
Official training is not mandatory, but it is hugely beneficial because it means that your staff will have the knowledge and confidence to act decisively – which might end up literally saving a life, whether it’s a colleague, a client or any other visitor.
Fire Awareness
Completion certificate: No
Recognised by: N/A
Valid for: N/A
The three-hour Fire Awareness course teaches attendees how to respond in the event of a fire – or the triggering of a fire alarm – within the workplace. Your staff will learn how to promote basic fire safety among themselves and colleagues, how to evacuate buildings in emergencies, and will also get hands-on training with real fire extinguishers, taking part in a practical demonstration.
Although this course does not result in a qualification, any employer should view it as a priority: the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that employers must ensure that all employees receive adequate safety training.

Fire Warden (AKA Fire Marshal)
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: Indefinitely (but we recommend refreshing knowledge every 3 years)
Our half-day Fire Warden course is specifically for designated fire wardens. The training covers a variety of key skills and techniques, including to identify fire risks, how to proactively prevent fires from developing and also how to take charge during a fire emergency – including how to use a fire extinguisher (there is a practical demonstration that each attendee must complete in order to pass).
Fire warden training is a legal requirement for all types of businesses, and applies to every single employee who has fire warden responsibilities – not just the most senior fire marshal (or the ‘fire safety coordinator’, which is the same thing).

Hot Work Passport
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: N/A
Valid for: 5 years
The full-day Hot Work Passport course gives attendees a clear understanding of the risks and hazards involved in hot work, and the safe ways in which to carry out hot work permits (risk assessments) and how to prevent fires. ‘Hot work’ is defined as any activity that can produce heat or sparks – for example, oxy-fuel welding, electric welding, or work using equipment such as cutting discs, grinding wheels, blowlamps, blowtorches, Stihl saws and so on.
Hot work permits are a legal requirement for anyone who is carrying out or supervising hot work, including site managers – it is not solely for the worker. Upon completion of the course, each attendee receives a certificate and a photo ID card (‘passport’) for everyday carry on-site.

Evacuation Chair
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 2 years
The half-day Evacuation Chair course provides thorough instruction on how to operate an evacuation chair in the event of an emergency (such as a fire). These chairs are essential for safely escorting disabled or immobile people from buildings.
The training itself is not a legal requirement, but it is a legal requirement for businesses to ensure a safe means of escape from their premises – not only for your staff, but also for any customers, clients or other visitors who are present.

COSHH
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: N/A
The three-hour COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) course trains attendees in the legislation and best practices for preventing and responding to accidents.
It is suitable for any worker who deals with harmful substances in their day-to-day work, and ensures that your staff are informed on the latest HSE regulations.

Manual Handling
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: N/A
The half-day Manual Handling course informs attendees on safe lifting practices within the workplace, covering the proven techniques that maximise safety while minimising injuries.
We can tailor the content to your specific industry if you wish, so that the training is properly focused on your employees’ day-to-day duties and tasks. In addition, we can extend the training to a full day if that would be beneficial.
