What is a First Aid At Work Course?

The three-day FAW course is our most thorough first aid course. It is approved by the Health and Safety Executive and meets the requirements of the First Aid at Work regulations (1981).

This comprehensive course will not only teach you the basics of first aid in the workplace, but also train you in advanced techniques such as the use of an automated defibrillator. It is designed for you if you are a nominated first aider in a hazardous environment, such as a factoryor a construction site, as well as providing you with complete training for any other work situation.

As an employer, this Health and Safety Executive approved course will not only help you to meet your obligations under the First Aid at Work (1981) regulations, but also ensure that your staff, customers and visitors are well protected and provided for.

What do you learn on a First Aid At Work course?

This comprehensive course will refresh and update your first aid knowledge and skills, allowing you to take appropriate action and provide treatment in a wide range of situations, including accidents, incidents and sudden illness. It will give you the skills you need to take care of the patient until qualified support, such as paramedics, arrives and the patient can be transferred to hospital.

You will also learn how to complete the mandatory paperwork required for formerly reporting an accident under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations(RIDDOR)2013.

What does a First Aid At Work course cover?

The comprehensive course covers a wide range of skills and techniques, and can be tailored to specific working environments and risks. Over the three days, you will learn:

How long is a First Aid At Work Course?

The course takes place over three days, with six hours of training per day between 9.00am and 4.15pm. However, the start time can be varied, by agreement, to suit staff schedules and shift patterns.

What level is the First Aid At Work Course?

The 3 day first aid course is typically a Level 3 qualification, which is suitable for individuals who are designated as first aiders in the workplace

Is there an assessment?

You will be continually assessed throughout the three days to ensure you have understood each part of the course before we move on.

To achieve HSE approved certification, you must also pass a formal assessment on completion of the course.

Do we receive first aid certificates?

Following a satisfactory final assessment, you will be awarded an HSE recognised certificate

How long does a first aid certificate last?

It is valid for three years even if you change employer during that time.

 

How often should first aid training be carried out?

In general, it is recommended that first aiders undergo refresher training annually to ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date. However, some workplaces may require more frequent training, particularly if the level of risk is high or the workplace has experienced a recent incident.
