    About our Blackpool courses

The seaside town of Blackpool has been a North West tourist hotspot for well over a century, attracting millions of visitors and generating tourism revenues in the billions (genuinely). With so many leisure-and-tourism businesses operating in the area, not to mention steady development, we regularly run occupational health and safety courses for companies based in and around Blackpool.

We do have a dedicated training centre in the area, but we know that on-site training is more cost-effective and more logistically convenient for many businesses. If you would prefer us to come and deliver the training at your premises, we’d be happy to – just let us know when you book the training, or submit a quick enquiry and we will contact you to confirm your requirements prior to booking.

You can read a synopsis of each training course below, and please feel free to email us ([email protected]) if you have any questions, or give us a call on 0800 774 7034. We can provide any relevant course for you, including those not listed on this page – just let us know what you need arranging.

    Fire Warden (AKA Fire Marshal)

    Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: Indefinitely (but we recommend refreshing knowledge every 3 years)

This is a half-day course for all designated fire wardens (AKA fire marshals) within a business, teaching them how to identify fire risks, how to proactively prevent those risks from developing and how to take decisive action in fire-related emergencies. During the session, each attendee partakes in a practical fire extinguisher demonstration.

Fire warden training is a legal requirement for all types of businesses, and it applies to all employees who have fire marshal responsibilities – it shouldn’t just be arranged for the senior fire marshal (or the ‘fire safety co-ordinator’).

    Hot Work Passport

    Completion certificate: Yes
    Recognised by: N/A
    Valid for: 5 years

This is a full-day course applicable to anyone and everyone involved in ‘hot work’, from workers, to supervisors, to site managers. The training gives every attendee a clear understanding of the risks and hazards involved in hot work activities such as welding (oxy-fuel or electric), using blowlamps/blowtorches, using cutting discs, operating grinding wheels, Stihl saws and so on. Also covered is how to safely carry out hot work permits (risk assessments), and of course how to prevent fires.

Anyone who is carrying out or supervising hot work needs a hot work permit, and that includes site managers. Upon completion of this course, each attendee receives a certificate and a photo ID card (‘passport’).

We provide this training to a wide range of sectors, from tourism, to construction, to manufacturing and more.

First Aid – Annual Half-Day Refresher

    Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
    Valid for: 1 year

Although the qualifications are valid for three years, HSE recommends that each qualified first-aider attends refresher training on an annual basis, to refresh their existing knowledge but also to update them on any big changes in legislation or first-aid best practice.

We can provide this refresher training for you, whether it was us who ran the original course or someone else. Just give us a call and let us know what you need.

    Manual Handling

    Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
    Valid for: N/A

This is a half-day training course about safe lifting practices and techniques within the workplace, and the aim of it is to educate staff and minimise the very avoidable injuries that come with improper manual handling.

So that the training is focused on your employees’ day-to-day handling tasks, we can tailor the course content specifically for your business, and if necessary, we can make it a full-day course

    Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

    Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
    Valid for: 1 year

This is an intensive two-hour course about automated external defibrillators (AEDs) – specifically how they work and how to operate them in the event of a cardiac arrest.

AEDs are different from large ‘paddle’-type defibs seen in the movies – they’re much less intimidating and are designed for anyone to use, but proper training elevates both knowledge and confidence. If your employees are able to quickly seek out an AED and administer a shock within a matter of seconds rather than a matter of minutes, that could make all the difference between life and death. Anyone can fall victim to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) – coworkers, site visitors, customers. Whoever the victim is, they will stand a much better chance if someone in the vicinity knows exactly where the AED is, and how to use it.

    Fire Awareness

    Completion certificate: No
    Recognised by: N/A
    Valid for: N/A

This is a three-hour course that teaches attendees what to do in the event of a fire, or the triggering of a fire alarm, as well as how to ensure basic fire safety among themselves and colleagues. Operating fire extinguishers and conducting building evacuations are covered in this training as well as some theoretical learning on how fires begin and spread.

Attending this Fire Awareness course does not lead to a formal qualification, but nonetheless, all employers should view it as necessary: the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that employers must arrange for all employees to receive adequate safety training.

    Evacuation Chair

    Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
    Valid for: 2 years

This is a half-day training course that instructs on how to use an evacuation chair to safely evacuate disabled or immobile persons from your business premises in an emergency situation, such as a fire or the sounding of a fire alarm.

Note that the training itself is not a legal requirement, but ensuring a safe means of escape from your premises is – for staff, customers, clients and anyone else who is in your building.
