About our St Helens courses
Once a place of industrial significance, St Helens has transformed over the years into a retail-focused location and a satellite town of Liverpool. Recent years have seen plenty of regeneration across St Helens, and the town alone has a population of more than 100,000. As such, we frequently run training courses for many different types of businesses in the town and the surrounding area, from shops and dining establishments to hotels and sports facilities.
We’re more than happy to conduct any training at our dedicated St Helens training location, but we understand that on-site training may be more logistically convenient or more cost-effective for you. If you would indeed prefer us to deliver the training at your premises, just let us know when you book the course, or submit a quick enquiry and we will contact you to discuss your needs.
You’ll find a synopsis of each individual course below, and please do call us (0800 774 7034) or email us ([email protected]) if you have any questions at all. We can provide more courses than those listed on this page, so let us know and we’ll accommodate your needs.
Course contents at a glance
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – level 2
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years
Our full-day EFAW course summarises the basics of emergency first aid in ‘low-risk’ work environments, and teaches the key techniques and procedures for treating accidents and sudden illnesses.
As a mixture of theory and practical exercise, attendees will spend the day learning about common scenarios, and the appropriate ways to respond swiftly and appropriately to those as an emergency first-aider.

Paediatric First Aid (2-Day)
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: OFSTED and EYFS
Valid for: 3 years
Our two-day paediatric first aid course elevates attendees’ knowledge and skills beyond that of a basic first-aider – preparing them for carrying out first-aid duties in schools, nurseries or other child-minding environments, including leisure facilities.
Your employees will come away from the training knowing how to respond decisively in emergencies related to young children and babies – from everyday accidents to unexpected illnesses. Thorough training like this can make all the difference in such an emergency, because it gives staff the knowledge and confidence to act swiftly and correctly.

First Aid at Work (FAW) – level 3
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 3 years
Our three-day FAW course is a much more thorough alternative to the single-day EFAW course outlined above, and is aimed at larger organisations and/or more hazardous environments, such as leisure facilities, pubs and bars.
We can tailor this course’s content to the nature of your business and workplace, ensuring that every second is relevant for your staff and their day-to-day work environment.
First Aid – Annual Half-Day Refresher
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: 1 year
Although first aid qualifications are valid for three years, HSE recommends that qualified first-aiders attend refresher training every year, so as to refresh their knowledge and update them on any legislative changes.
We can provide this refresher training even if another organisation provided your initial training. Just let us know your requirements and the details of past training when you come to book the course, and we’ll customise an agenda for you.
Fire Awareness
Completion certificate: No
Recognised by: N/A
Valid for: N/A
Our three-hour fire awareness course outlines basic fire safety principles and the appropriate steps and responses in the event of a fire or the triggering of a fire alarm. Attendees will learn via a mixture of fire safety theory and some practical exercises, including how to conduct building evacuations and how to discharge fire extinguishers (with each attendee completing a practical demonstration).
This course does not lead to a formal qualification, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 does state that employers must arrange for all employees to receive adequate safety training – so, nonetheless, any employer should view this as compulsory for all workers.

Fire Warden (AKA Fire Marshal)
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: Indefinitely (but we recommend refreshing knowledge every 3 years)
Our half-day fire warden course is applicable to all fire wardens/marshals within an organisation, and divulges how to identify fire risks, proactive prevention tactics and the appropriate actions to take in fire emergencies. Each attendee completes a practical fire extinguisher demonstration, to prove that they know how to discharge it.
This type of training is a legal requirement for all designated fire wardens in all types of businesses – it shouldn’t just be arranged for the senior fire marshal (i.e. the fire safety coordinator), but for every single person with such responsibilities – group bookings are common, and recommended.

Hot Work Passport
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: N/A
Valid for: 5 years
Our full-day Hot Work Passport course is appropriate for all construction and maintenance workers who are involved in ‘hot work’ activities, which includes supervisors and site managers. Every attendee will gain full awareness of the risks and hazards involved in hot work, and will learn the correct procedure for safely carrying out hot work permits (i.e. risk assessments), and of course, preventing fires from starting and spreading. In other words, they’ll learn how to safely use welding equipment, blowlamps/blowtorches, cutting discs, grinding wheels, Stihl saws and any other relevant equipment.
Each attendee is awarded a certificate and a photo ID card (‘passport’) upon completion of the course.

Manual Handling
Completion certificate: Yes
Recognised by: Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
Valid for: N/A
Our half-day manual handling training course will teach your employees all about safe lifting practices and the techniques they need to use within the workplace.
We can tailor the content specifically for your organisation – taking into account the nature of your business and the day-to-day manual handling tasks your staff carry out – and if you need something more in-depth, we can extend it to a full-day agenda.
